Home Owner Removed from Trash Home

Updated: Monday, July 21 2014, 08:25 AM CDT
(From WTTE) - COLUMBUS (Lisa Rantala/Dawn Faugl) -- The city issued an emergency vacate order on a Howey Road home after firefighters found the homeowner inside, buried in trash.

According to court documents, firefighters went to the home in May on a report of a person who was down and couldn’t get up. When the crew arrived, they said they only saw trash coming out the door, and no one was in sight.

They called for the homeowner and said they found her six inches away “buried in trash and belongings by the front of her refrigerator.” They say it took nearly 40 minutes to “dig her out.”

Code enforcement officers then went to the home last week, forcing the homeowner out. Officers took the woman to Grant Medical Center, and posted “vacate” signs around her home, calling it unliveable.
