Hutchinson Fire Department using fire to fight potential wildfires

Instead of putting our grass fires in Reno County on Thursday, firefighters started them.

The Hutchinson Fire Department, the Kansas Forest Service, and other groups were out starting grass fires. Their intent was to burn up pieces of land used as fuel by fire to create a barrier that could prevent widespread wildfires in the area.
