States, small towns concerned about decline in number of volunteer firefighters

Some states are calling the declining number of volunteer firefighters a state emergency.

In Kansas, that decline is being felt by different agencies. Chief Randy Hoffman, a 38-year veteran of Cowley County Fire District 4, is one of about 18 volunteers who are making a difference in Udall. He says he would like to see his team double in size, especially with the colder months ahead.

FOX Kansas News reporter Sarah Berlinger talked with him about the struggle. You can see the story and hear more from Chief Hoffman in the video posted above.
