Wichita Fire Dept. gets new training facility built by firefighters

Wichita fire crews have built a new training complex out of shipping container boxes and the training is really taking off.

Built and assembled only by Wichita firefighters, the new training complex on 31st Street is eye-catching. The containers are being used in drills to simulate a 2100-square foot home to hone firefighter's search and rescue skills should your family ever need them.

Every WFD crew is getting reps in at the new complex that has 11 rooms, each of which can be burned over and over again, something firefighters say prepares them for their next call.

You can see inside the complex and hear from the crews who train at the sight by watching the report above from FOX Kansas News at 9 anchor, Carly Willis.
