Wichita man sentenced in animal abuse case

A Wichita man has been sentenced to a year in jail after intentionally running over a dog several times.

Twenty-year-old Cole Ford Carter was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty. Now federal legislation means similar cases in the future could come with hefty fines and more prison time.

Since the U.S. Senate passed a bill making animal cruelty a federal felony, the Kansas Humane Society is hoping the number of abused animals will decrease soon.

FOX Kansas News at 9 reporter Alexis Padilla spoke with the President of Kansas Humane Society, Marc Eby. You can see her report in the video posted above.
