Authorities identify body of man found north of Wichita

WICHITA, Kansas Authorities are investigating after the body of 23-year-old Deandre Freeman Jr. was found by a man walking his dog along the road near 77th Street North and Oliver.

The discovery was made about 7:30 Monday morning.

Police said there were obvious signs of trauma to Deandres body.

Right now, an autopsy is being conducted to find more clues.

Investigators are working the case as a homicide.

Obviously, we are going to have forensic investigators come in and do the work that they need to do. We will continue to process the scene. We are going to be up and down the roads in this area looking for any piece of evidence we can uncover, said Lt Dave Mattingly, Sedgwick County Sheriffs Department.

Deputies have shut down Oliver between 77th and 85th Street North while they investigate.

The sheriffs office says they plan on releasing more information on the Deandres death at a press briefing Tuesday morning.
