Teen in critical condition after being hit by a car in southeast Wichita

WICHITA, Kansas - A 15-year-old teen is in critical condition after being hit by a car near Southeast High School.

It happened just after 11:30 a.m. near Lincoln and Edgemoor.

KSN has confirmed the teen is a freshman at the school.

"We had a 15-year-old male that left the school. He apparently didn't use the crosswalk, jotted across the street there in front of the SUV and got struck," said Sgt. Bruce Watts, Wichita Police Department.

Police say students have not been using crosswalks in the area.

"A lot of the students will leave the school property for lunch, and you know we've had a problem down here with the kids just running across the street and not using the proper crosswalk," said Watts.
