Baby left after hit-and-run accident

WICHITA, Kansas - Wichita police are investigating after a baby was left in the street during a hit-and-run accident.

It happened about 9 p.m. Christmas night in the 2500 block of West Anita.

Witnesses say a driver was rear-ended while heading south in the 2700 block of Meridian.

The suspect, who rear-ended the car, got out of the vehicle and fled the scene after being confronted.

While he was fleeing, he dropped off a 1-year-old girl in her carrier in the street.

Both witnesses took custody of the baby.

One of the witnesses recognized the suspect.

"The witnesses took the child back to the home in the 2500 block of West Anita, the home of the mother," said Capt. Troy Livingston, Wichita Police Department.  "The child was checked by EMS. The child was released to the mother."

Police have identified the father of the baby. They are still looking for him.

He could face child endangerment and hit-and-run charges.
