Wichita man arrested for meth in rural Barton County

GREAT BEND, Kansas The Barton County Sheriffs Department arrested a 26-year-old Wichita man Saturday night for possession of methamphetamine.

It happened in a field south of Highway 56.

A deputy on patrol observed a car driving in a field south of the highway.

The officer stopped the man who was identified as 26-year-old Justin L. Peterson.

During the traffic stop, the officer learned Peterson had two outstanding warrants from Russell and Barton County.

Further investigation revealed Peterson was allegedly in possession of approximately 250 g of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and other items.

Peterson was placed under arrest for the warrants and for possession with intent to distribute, as well as failure to comply with the Kansas Drug Tax Stamp Act.

Peterson is being held in the Barton County jail in lieu of $300,000 bond.

The Barton County Sheriffs Office is pursuing other leads in the case.
