Chimps back in captivity at Kansas City Zoo

KANSAS CITY, Missouri Kansas City Zoo officials reported Thursday afternoon to NBC affiliate KSHB 41 Action News that there were chimpanzees on the loose.

Zoo Spokesperson Julie Neermeiyer said the chimps were in the zoo, in a behind-the-scenes area.

It was reported that seven chimps total were out but have since been lured back into captivity using food.

The chimps escaped by climbing a wall with a large stick leaned up against it.

Zoo visitors were taken indoors for protection. The zoo has closed for the evening.
