Sheriff Easter reports internal threat

WICHITA, Kansas - Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter, in a Friday morning press conference, announced that they have suspended a detention deputy accused of threatening a coworker.

Sheriff Easter said he plans to present info to the District Attorney's Office for felony criminal charges, calling the threats "significant".

The case involves a nine-year veteran of the department who made multiple threats over the phone to coworkers. He is on paid administrative leave.

The sheriff says the co-workers threatened were caught off-guard.

"We believe there was alcohol in play with this particular incident, but we are investigating it through our detective section," said Sheriff Jeff Easter.

Sheriff Easter said measures have been taken to keep the deputy out of the jail for now and criminal charges may be filed later today.
