Standoff ends peacefully in Towanda

WICHITA, Kansas - Charges could be filed against a Towanda man after a four-hour standoff with police at the Pine Ridge Mobile Home Park.

It all started just before 7 p.m. Sunday night when a woman called 911 reporting her husband, Roger Pierce Jr., had been drinking and arguing with her all day.

She told officers that she and her children felt threatened after she heard him get a gun while in the bedroom.

They were able to get out of their home safely.

After numerous attempts of trying to get Pierce to come out of the home, the Butler County Sheriff had to call in the SWAT team to help handle the situation.

"It finally ended by SWAT team breaching door. When they breached the door, they found subject in mobile home. He does appear to have a self-inflicted wound to part of his lower right cheek area," said Sheriff Kelly Herzet, Butler County Sheriff.

Right now, Pierce is recovering at a Wichita hospital.

Sheriff Herzet says they will present the case to the district attorney for possible charges as soon as the investigation is complete.
