WICHITA, Kansas The Wichita Public Library wins first place in a national grant competition.

The city hosted representatives from the LibraryAware Community Award program Tuesday who handed over a check for $10,000.

They competed against some of the largest in the country.

Director of Libraries, Cynthia Berner-Harris, says its great to be recognized for all their hard work engaging with the community.

We are committed to making a difference in our community and in the lives of our residents. We dont think our efforts are extraordinary so it was particularly rewarding when the work that we do was noticed by Library Journal and Novelist in our selection for this reward, said Berner-Harris.

The LibraryAware grant is awarded to libraries that are actively building relationships with residents and creating programs that keep them relevant in the digital age.
