Police to receive PETA award for rescuing trapped dog

WICHITA, Kansas The Wichita Police Department will receive a PETA award for rescuing a trapped dog on a highway ledge.

Last Friday, a dog named Harley was spooked by fireworks.

The dog ran away from home and ended up trapped on the side of an overpass at Kellogg and Tyler.

Wichita police sprang into action and retrieved the dog from the highway ledge.

A viral Facebook photo of the rescue efforts helped the department find his family, and they were reunited the next day.

For saving Harley and reuniting him with his family, the Wichita Police Department will receive PETAs Compassionate Action Award.

The tenacity and know-how shown by the Wichita Police Departmentboth on the street and in officers successful use of social mediais an inspiration, says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. Wichita is very fortunate to have first responders who are ready to protect and serve allmembers of the communityhuman and nonhuman alike.

For its efforts, the police department will receive a framed certificate and a letter of appreciation.
